Climbing Trips

 

OP offers a variety of rock climbing trips, courses and trainings throughout the year.  Below are descriptions of our most common offerings.  Click on the Level name to see trips offered at that level.  Checkout the OP Calendar  for Spring 2013 Trips and Pricing.

The OP Climbing Program offers several levels of experiences to meet participants' preparation and expectations, all trips have something to offer climbers of all skill levels and are open to all:

Level 1 Foundations
Designed for novices with little to no experience, will teach you skills necessary to enjoy the activity safely while leaving plenty of room to learn more.

Level 2 Intermediate
Designed for climbers with some experience who wish to develop the skills necessary to plan their own adventure.

Level 3 Instructor Development
Designed for climbers who wish to learn "how to teach" climbing skills and eventually lead trips with Outdoor Programs or other organizations. 

Level 4 Credentials (coming soon)
Designed for those climbers looking to recieve a nationally recognized curriculum or certification, or participate in Outdoor Program's Staff Training.

Introduction to Climbing Day Trip

  • Location: Linville Gorge, NC
  • Date: Saturday, 3/2
  • Cost: $35.00
  • Summary: Have you ever wanted to explore the art of rock climbing? This particular course is often deemed the most popular climbing trip that Outdoor Programs offers. Spend a full day in Linville Gorge exploring the art of climbing. Students will gain lots of hands on practice through small workshops and lessons while learning climbing techniques and having the opportunity to climb in a stunning wilderness setting. Trip fee includes transportation, lunch, equipment and experienced Outdoor Programs instructors.

Introduction to Climbing Anchors 101

  • Location: Table Rock, NC
  • Date: Sunday, 3/3
  • Cost:  $35.00
  • Summary: Want to take your climbing to the next level? Are you ready to learn more than belaying? This trip is the perfect trip for you. We'll head to Table Rock, NC and learn out to set up top rope anchors. After receiving great instruction on constructing and assessing anchors you'll get to spend the rest of the day climbing in one of our favorite places in the High Country.  Trip fee includes transportation, lunch, equipment and experienced Outdoor Programs instructors.

Multi-Pitch Climbing Adventure

  • Location: Stone Mountain, NC
  • Date: Friday, 4/5 - Sunday, 4/7
  • Cost: $100
  • Summary: Want to explore the vertical world? Join Outdoor Programs as we venture to one of the biggest granite domes on the East Coast, Stone Mountain. Experienced Outdoor Programs instructors will teach you the skills & techniques necessary to enjoy some fun multi-pitch climbing as we navigate our way up 600 feet of granite through a variety of routes.  Trip fee includes transportation, meals, camping fees, climbing & camping equipment and experienced Outdoor Programs instructors.

Bouldering Day Trip

  • Location: Rumbling Bald, NC
  • Date: Sunday, 4/14
  • Cost: $35 
  • Summary: Join Outdoor Programs as we travel south, spending the day bouldering in one of the best spots in the Southeast, Rumbling Bald! We will introduce beginner boulderers to spotting and climbing techniques while providing good safety and guidance for more advanced boulderers as they explore the hidden gems of Rumbling Bald. Epic sends and world class problems wait around every turn as the spring flowers and Lake Lure provide a stunning backdrop.  Trip fee includes transportation, lunch, climbing gear, and experienced Outdoor Programs instructors.
