Stiles, a student at Appalachain State University, has a passion for the outdoors, from hiking, biking, paddling, and climbing; she is constantly staying active. She has spent time adventuring in South America and has contributed extensively to Outdoor Programs, Recreation Management and PE at Appalachian State. She introduces youth to the importance of the outdoors through her work with Outward Bound, Rock Dimensions and volunteering with Mountain Alliance. By giving her students the skills they need to safely explore a variety of wild spaces, Stiles is contributing to the growth of a community that has a growing passion for the outdoors.

Emma Gummerson (17 and under category)

Emma, a student at Watauga High School, is a student member of the Mountain Alliance board of directors. Her voice is an important part of Mountain Alliance's ability to create programs that inspire other students to participate in community service and outdoor adventure activities. Emma has spent the last school year volunteering for Outdoor Programs at Appalachian State University and was a national winner of the Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge in the Fall of 2014.
